First Appearance: Manga chapter | Anime episode

The captain of Division 8 is Shunsui Kyoraku, a Shinigami who seems laid back about his duties as well as life in general. His straw hat and pink haori reflect his personality. Kyoraku comes from a noble family and, along with Jushiro Ukitake, was one of the first students of General Yamamoto at the Shiningami Academy. Although he is no doubt powerful, Kyoraku usually prefers not to fight unless it is unavoidable. Kyoraku’s favorite activities include napping, drinking sake and chasing kyoraku_shikaiafter girls. He is kept in check by his very serious Lieutenant, Nanao Ise, who constantly has to remind Kyoraku of his obligations and duties as a Shinigami captain.

Kyoraku’s Zanpakuto is Katen Kyokotsu (Flower Heaven, Crazy Bone). Its Shikai command is “flower wind rage and flower god roar, heavenly wind rage and heavenly demon sneer.” Similar to Jushiro Ukitake’s Zanpakuto, Kyoraku’s Zanpakuto transforms into a pair of large scimitars.

Shunsui Kyoraku needs more respect. He is one of the oldest and most powerful shinigami and it really needs to be shown more often. Not to be offensive to the more popular but statistically weaker shinigami such as Toshiro Hitsugaya, Byakuya Kuchiki, Kenpachi Zaraki, Mayuri Kurotsuchi, etc. I received the statistics on bleach.wikia.net in which the site got them from Tite Kubo himself!
