Kukaku Shiba is the sister of Ganju and is a renowned fireworks maker in Soul Society. Because of her work, Kukaku’s house is located on the outskirts of Soul Society and often changes places. She has a strong personality and is not afraid of saying what’s on her mind. In the Bleach manga, Kukaku is missing her right arm, but in the anime version it is replaced with a prosthetic. She carries a short blade behind her back and is capable of casting high level kido spells.
Kukaku became the head of the Shiba household following the death of her brother Kaien Shiba. Because they were told that Kaien, a Lieutenant of the 11th Division, both Kukaku and Ganju developed a distrust for all Shinigami.
Kukaku appears to have a relationship with Yoruichi Shihoin and Kisuke Urahara. When Ichigo and his party first arrived in Soul Society, Yoruichi led them to Kukaku’s house where she helped them gain access to Seireitei.
