Kisuke Urahara was first introduced as the owner of Urahara’s Shop, a speciality shop which Rukia often visited to obtain Shinigami items. Urahara operates the shop with his helpers Tessai Tsukabishi, Ururu Tsumugiya and Jinta Hanakari. Urahara was a mysterious figure because even though he often acted laidback an downright goofy, he was quite knowledgeable about Shinigami and Hollows alike and even knew of a method of forcibly entering Soul Society. It is later revealed that Urahara was formerly the Captain of Division 12 and the founder of the Shinigami Research Institute, having invented many of the devices Shinigami use today. He was exiled from Soul Society after being framed by Sousuke Aizen. However, Kisuke has not turned his back on Soul Society and continues to keep a vigilante watch over the human world as well as the plans of Aizen.
Kisuke originally joined the Gotei 13 along with Yourichi Shihoin, becoming the third seat of the second division under her command. He eventually passed the test to become the Captain of the 12th Division when former Captain Kirio Hikifune became a Royal Guard of Division Zero. He founded the Shinigami Research Institute and created many useful inventions. However, he was framed by Sousuke Aizen, who was then a Lieutenant of the 5th Division, for conducting hollow/shinigami experiments and for creating an untraceable gigai that could turn shinigami into humans. Kisuke managed to escape and used the special gigai to help himself, his servent Tessei and the eight vizards (victims of Aizen’s hollow/shinigami experiments) to escape to the human world. He gave Rukia the very same gigai in an attempt to hide the Hogyoku, another one of his inventions, but it was eventually stolen by Aizen at the conclusion of the Soul Society arc.
Kisuke’s zanpakuto is called Benhime. In its seal stated, it is in the form of a blade concealed inside a cane. Its shikai command is “wake up” which causes the blade to widen and the sword to resemble a Chinese dao. Benihime’s shikai abilities include the ability to fire energy blasts similar to ceros and the Blood Mist Shield which creates a defensive barrier in front of Kisuke.

man, u seem to really love him. i knew there was something weird with that username. and yes, he is and will always be the best. screw ichigo.
i wanna see his bankai soon. i remember him telling renji, while requesting him to train sado, that his bankai was not the type that can be used to help someone train. that could only mean that urahara’s bankai is an extremely cool, killing bankai.
