Ichigo fights the Mod-Soul in his real body, but gets interrupted when Rukia receives orders about a Hollow. Ichigo and Rukia have trouble locating the Hollow, but the Mod-Soul is able to sense it right away as he was designed to. He is injured trying to protect three kids from the Hollow, but Ichigo arrives back to defeat it. Urahara and his team arrive to retrieve the Mod-Soul pill, but Rukia decides to hold on to it. She and Ichigo later put it inside a stuffed animal and are surprised that the body is animated by the Mod-Soul. Ichigo names their new loud mouthed companion “Kon.” The next day at school, Ichigo seems unusually calm and friendly. Ichigo asks Rukia for the next day, June 17th, off from Shinigami duties because it is the anniversary of when his mother died… or rather was murdered.
