Ichigo comes to his sisters rescue and manages to get them to safety with the help of Rukia and Saidou Eikichirou. The Hollow is codenamed Grand Fisher and has eluded Shinigami for over fifty years. He uses a lure shaped like a human to catch his victims. Ichigo goes berserk when he learns that it was Grand Fisher that killed his mother that day years ago. Ichigo insists on fighting the Hollow by himself and Rukia recognizes it as a matter of pride. Ichigo is no match for the experienced Hollow and is at even more of a disadvantage when the Hollow transforms his lure to look like Ichigo’s deceased mother. Miraculously, her mother’s spirit is temporarily revived and Ichigo learns that her dying wish was for him to be safe. Ichigo regains his strength and injures Grand Fisher. The Hollow retreats, but Ichigo is too injured himself to follow. Later, at his mother’s grave site, Ichigo asks Rukia to let him become a Shinigami a little longer so he can grow strong enough to kill the Grand Fisher.
