Byakuya Kuchiki finally visits Rukia in jail and announces to her that her execution will take place in 25 days. Inside the pit underneath Urahara’s shop, time passes quickly and the last of Ichigo’s soul chain erodes away, causing him to go through the agonizing process of transforming into a Hollow. At the same time though, Ichigo encounters the spirit of his Zanpakuto inside a place constructed in his own mind. The spirit informs Ichigo that Byakuya only removed Rukia’s Shinigami powers from him, but in fact, Ichigo has his own dormant powers as well. Ichigo is able to unleash the Shinigami powers he was born with and emerges from the pit with his Shinigami uniform and also the mask of a Hollow. But Ichigo is able to break his mask off and faces Urahara for his final challenge.
