Kukaku explains to Ichigo and the others that Seireitei is protected by an anti-spirit shield extended from the walls made from a rare mineral called Bloodthirst Stone. The only way to penetrate the shield is to use a special cannonball of her own making which generates its own shield using the user’s spiritual power. She has everyone practice concentrating their energies into the ball, but Ichigo has a particularly hard time. But after Ganji gives him a small tip, Ichigo is able to generate an enormously powerful shield of his own.

Meanwhile, the captains of the Gotei 13 gather for a meeting inside Seireitei. Gin Ichimaru’s actions during his encounter with Ichigo’s party is being questioned because he let the intruders live. But before they can question him further, the emergency alarm sounds.
