Bleach Manga Chapter 7: The Pink Cheeked Parakeet
Sado “Chad” Yasutora is hanging out with two of his friends. One of them recently received a parakeet, but he fears it’s cursed because the previous owners all died horrible deaths. He tries to pass the bird onto Chad when suddenly a steel beam from the building under construction above falls down on them. Chad reacts instantly and protects his friends by catching the beam with his shoulders. Even though he’s bleeding, Chad calmly says he is alright. The parakeet begins to speak; it thanks Chad for saving him and says its name is Yuuichi Shibata.
During lunch at school, Ichigo and Rukia eat together on the roof. Rukia brags about her top grade demon arts abilities, but can’t figure out how to drink out of a juice box. Ichigo’s friend Mizuiro Kojima comes to join them and mistakes that Ichigo is dating Rukia. Ichigo warns Rukia that despite his innocent-looking face, Mizuiro is a womanizer.
They are soon joined by Keigo Asano, who seems depressed when Mizuiro tells him Ichigo is going out with Rukia. Suddenly, Shigeo is kicked from behind by a delinquent student named Reiichi Ooshima. Reiichi is looking for trouble and pulls out iron knuckles to threaten Ichigo. But before he can do anything, Chad grabs him from behind and throws him several feet into the air.
Chad joins them to eat, but Ichigo notices he is covered in injuries. Chad tells him about the steel beam hitting his head, and then about being hit by a motorcycle when he went to buy lunch. Chad has taken ownership of the cursed parakeet and lays it down. Ichigo immediately notices that something is possessing the bird, but Rukia reassures him it’s nothing but a lonely spirit. To make sure it doesn’t become a Hollow, they agree to send it to Soul Society later.
When Ichigo arrives home after school, the clinic is in a mad rush because of a car accident that happened nearby. Isshin asks Ichigo to help carry a very large injured man inside, but Ichigo recognizes that it is Chad – who is still carrying the parakeet with him. Isshin examines Chad and finds a large burn mark on his back which resembles a hand print. Even from Ichigo’s room, Rukia could sense the mark of a Hollow from Chad’s wounds. Chad is forced to rest in a bed at the clinic, but he later escapes through a window, taking the parakeet with him.
