Ichigo goes to school the next day but what Ishida had said about hating all Shinigami still bugs him. The recent test scores have been posted and the number one ranking student in Ichigo’s class just happens to be Uryuu Ishida. It wasn’t until Orihime pointed Ishida out for Ichigo that he finally realized he was in his class all along. Orihime says that it’s not surprising because Ishida normally is quiet and doesn’t stand out much, he does however excel at sewing. Ichigo follows Ishida after school but Ishida had known all along. He tells Ichigo was easy to spot because Shinigami have a red spiritual aura (reiraku). Ishida mocks Ichigo for not being able to sense his spiritual power all this time and challenges him to a match to prove that he is better than a Shinigami.
