Bleach Manga Chapter 13: BAD STANDARD

Rukia feels that it is becoming harder to move in her gigai (artificial body) and visits Urahara’s Shop, a special place that sells items from Soul Society. She arrives early in the morning and meets Jinta and Ururu, two children who work at the shop and are outside sweeping. Rukia is invited into the shop by Tessai, a large man who is also an assistant at the shop. Lastly, she is greeted by Kisuke Urahara, the proprietor of the shop.

Rukia orders spare fuel for the Kikanshinki (the device used to erase peoples’ memories) She also requests Souma Fixers, something that helps synchronize her more to her gigai body, but Urahara warns that if she uses them too much it will hurt when she transfers out of the body. Rukia pays with the bounty rewards recorded on her Shinigami cell phone. Of the four Hollows slain by Ichigo, only Shrieker had a bounty on him since he devoured two Shinigami before. Rukia also asks for her special order item which Ururu retrieves from the back room.

At school, the boys are playing with Chad’s parakeet. Chad has apparently forgotten yesterday’s events thanks to Rukia’s Kikanshinki. Rukia arrives to class and asks Ichigo to come with her. When Ichigo argues, she punches him in the gut and drags him out.

When they are alone, Rukia hands Ichigo a pez dispenser with “Soul Candy” written on it. Inside are Gikongan or Artifical Spirit Pills. It was designed to force spirits out of their bodies and Rukia wants Ichigo to use it to change into a Shingami in situations where she is not around. Ichigo asks why the container is shaped like a duck; Rukia replies that she wanted the Chappy the Bunny design.

To test it out, Ichigo eats one of the pills and his soul is instantly extracted. A temporary soul takes over his body, but its ‘boy scout’ personality is completely different from Ichigo’s. Ichigo starts to complain but an order comes in and Rukia hauls Ichigo away to go Hollow hunting. After they’re gone, the temporary soul’s smile disappears and his personality seems to change. Back at the shop, Urahara discovers that Ururu made a mistake and instead gave Rukia an item from the box marked defective merchandise.
