Bleach Manga Chapter 16: Wasted but Wanted

Rukia and Ichigo search for the Mod-Soul in Ichigo’s body without much luck. To make matters worse, an order comes in indicating a Hollow will show up nearby in five minutes.

At Karin and Yuzu’s middle school, screams from the three boys who were playing video games grabs the gym teacher’s attention. They claim that an orange-haired high schooler destroyed their video games and then ran off. A short distance away, the Mod-Soul is traveling away from the school through the rooftops. He lost his temper earlier when he saw the boys were creating and deleting characters without a care. He stops when he senses a Hollow, and its coming from the direction of the school.

A centipede shaped Hollow appears on the school grounds. He targets the three boys from earlier, but the Mod-Soul arrives in time to carry them out of harm’s way. He tells them to run, but they are confused because they cannot see the Hollow. They suddenly realize the danger when the Hollow attacks and cuts the Mod-Soul in the shoulder.

Ichigo and Rukia hurry to the location of the Hollow, but see that someone is already fighting it on the school’s rooftop. Ichigo realizes that it’s the Mod-Soul and rushes in to save it from being skewered by the Hollow. He yells at the Mod-Soul for getting his body injured, especially by a low level Hollow. The Mod-Soul argues he had to interfere to save the kids since it took Ichigo so long to arrive.

The Hollow attempts to attack them while they are arguing, but Ichigo easily slices through its mask. As the Hollow falls backwards, the Mod-Soul suddenly races in to kick it upwards. Ichigo has to save the Mod-Soul from falling off the roof. Ichigo sees that the Mod-Soul did what he did so that the Hollow’s body would not crush a line of ants crawling nearby. The Mod-Soul says he does not want to kill anything. He was destined to be destroyed as soon as he was created, so now he views every life as precious.

Their conversation is broken when Urahara suddenly appears between them. He uses his cane to strike Ichigo’s head and ejects the Mod-Soul pill. Urahara orders his group to return home; Jinta gets mad because they had brought all their equipment here for nothing. Rukia appears and take the pill from Urahara, stating that she will take responsibility for it. Ichigo thanks her for saving the Mod-Soul, but she replies mysterously that she has already been thanked.
