Bleach Manga Chapter 8: Chase Chad Round

At breakfast, Ichigo learns from his father that Chad disappeared from his room at the clinic. Ichigo rushes to school to see if anyone has seen Chad, but rushes out again when no leads turn up. His teacher, Misato Ochi, is rather lax and lets Ichigo skip class to go on his search.

At Karakura South Primary School, Karin is throwing up in the bathroom while Yuzu waits outside her stall with worry. A friend, Midori, comes to check up when Karin exits the stall with an angry scowl. She snaps at Yuzu and tells her she is going to leave school early.

Ichigo is running around town searching for Chad and meets up with Rukia. They have no information on the Hollow from Soul Society so they cannot track it. Hollows hide between the dimensions between Soul Society and the human world and can only be sensed when they emerge.

Ichigo comes up with the idea of tracking Chad by tracing the aura of the spirit possessing the parakeet. It requires a technique called Reiraku (Spirit Threads), but it is a high level Shinigami ability even Rukia hasn’t mastered yet. Yet Ichigo is able to activate this ability with ease and locates the parakeet’s soul thread within seconds.

Inside a nearby warehouse, Chad hides with the parakeet in order to escape the Hollow that has been stalking them. Suddenly, Chad senses something from behind and leaps away in time to avoid an attack from the Hollow. Chad runs away carrying the parakeet, and promises to it that he will save his mother.

Chad rounds a corner and bumps into Ichigo and Rukia, but immediately turns and runs in the opposite direction. Ichigo gives chase but Karin’s voice halts him. Ichigo’s sister looks very weak and collapses to the ground. Rukia tells Ichigo to take Karin back home while she follows Chad. If they left Karin there, it would definitely distract Ichigo during the fight. Ichigo carries his sister away, but tells Rukia to be careful since her powers have not yet returned.

As Ichigo runs back home, Karin regains consciousness and tells him that she had seen the memories of the child spirit within the parakeet the previous day. The spirit’s strongest memory flowed into her: the memory of witnessing his mother murdered before his eyes. Karin begins to cry and begs Ichigo to save the kid’s spirit.
